Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 25, 2026

GPS Phone Tracker: Locator is developed and published by BrightCode Dev (“we”, “us”, or “our”). We value your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when you use our mobile application (the “App” or “Service”).

By installing or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Permissions

We request the following Android permissions solely to support core features. We do not collect or transmit personal data beyond what is described in this Privacy Policy.

  • INTERNET & ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE — Required to connect to our servers, sync your account, and provide map and location features.
  • ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION & ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION — Used to determine your precise and approximate location for map display, location sharing, nearby places, zones, journeys, and related features.
  • ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION — Used only when you grant this permission so location sharing and tracking features can continue while the App runs a location foreground service in the background.
  • FOREGROUND_SERVICE & FOREGROUND_SERVICE_LOCATION — Required on modern Android versions to keep location sharing active while the App is not on screen, when you have enabled location tracking.
  • CAMERA — Used only if you grant camera permission, for example to scan QR codes when adding friends or to capture a profile photo.
  • POST_NOTIFICATIONS — Used to show service and alert notifications when you allow notifications on your device.
  • RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED & REQUEST_IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATIONS — Used to help keep location tracking reliable after device restart and when battery optimization would otherwise interrupt background location delivery.
  • WAKE_LOCK — Used to keep network connections stable while transmitting location updates.

We do not request access to your contacts, SMS, call logs, microphone, or notification listener access.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Device & Usage Data

  • Device identifiers (such as Android ID or a per-install device ID) and device name for account security, session management, and fraud prevention.
  • IP address, network status, and basic server or diagnostic logs to maintain service stability and security.
  • Crash and error diagnostics collected through Firebase Crashlytics to help us fix issues.
  • Basic usage analytics collected through Firebase Analytics to understand feature adoption and improve the App.

2.2 User-Provided Data

  • Phone number — Used to create and sign in to your account.
  • Name / display name — Used to personalize your profile and help friends identify you.
  • Profile photo / avatar — If you choose to upload one.
  • Email address — If associated with your account.
  • Friend codes, groups, and sharing settings — Used to manage who can see your information and location.
  • Support emails — If you contact us, we receive your email address and message content so we can respond.

2.3 Location Data

The App accesses, collects, and processes LOCATION data. This includes precise location (GPS) and approximate location derived from network information.

Depending on the features you use and the permissions you grant, we may collect:

  • Precise location (latitude, longitude, accuracy, timestamp).
  • Approximate location.
  • Foreground location while you are actively using the App.
  • Background location while the App’s location foreground service is running, including when the App is not open on screen.
  • Location history / journey points when those features are enabled.
  • Battery percentage and related device status sent together with location updates to support sharing features.

Location Data is used exclusively for:

  • Showing your location on maps.
  • Real-time and mutual location sharing with friends, groups, or users you authorize.
  • Phone number locator / find-location features.
  • Nearby locations, famous places, and Street View features.
  • Custom safe zones / geofences and enter/exit alerts.
  • Journey / trip history.
  • Realtime location updates transmitted to our servers, including via MQTT or similar channels.

We do not sell your Location Data.

2.4 Camera Data

If you grant camera permission, the App may access your device camera to scan QR codes (for example, to add friends) or to capture a profile photo. QR scanning is processed for that purpose and is not stored as continuous video. Profile photos you choose to upload may be stored on our servers as part of your account.

3. Location Sharing & Consent

  • Permission required: Location is collected only after you grant the relevant Android location permissions, including background location where applicable.
  • Mutual opt-in: Location is shared with other users only after you connect through friend codes, groups, or sharing rules and choose the sharing level you want (for example, hidden, current location, or live location).
  • Toggle control: You can disable location sharing in the App and revoke location permission at any time in your device Settings. When disabled, location-dependent features may not work.

We do not share your location with anyone who has not been authorized by you through the App’s friend, group, or sharing features.

4. Mutual Friend-Code Flow

  • Generate code: You create a unique friend code or QR in your profile.
  • Exchange codes: Trusted contacts enter or scan your code in “Add Friend.”
  • Activate sharing: Both users choose the sharing permission they want to grant.
  • Start tracking: Only then may location and related profile information become visible according to the sharing rules you selected.

5. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the App and its core features.
  • Create and manage your account.
  • Process and display Location Data for maps, sharing, alerts, journeys, and locator features.
  • Improve stability, security, and user experience.
  • Respond to your support requests.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our policies.

6. Information Sharing with Third Parties

We may share information only as described below. We do not sell personally identifiable information to third-party advertisers.

  • With other users you authorize: When you use friend, group, or sharing-rule features, your Location Data and related profile information may be shared with the specific users or groups you choose.

  • For legal reasons: We may disclose information if required by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
  • Business transfers: If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

Third-party services may process limited data under their own privacy policies. You can review Google’s policies at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

7. Data Retention

  • Account information: Retained for the duration of your account relationship and up to 24 months after account closure, unless a longer period is required by law.
  • Location Data: Realtime location updates are retained only as long as needed to provide sharing and map features. Location history / journey data is retained for up to 24 months, or until you delete your account or request deletion, whichever occurs first.
  • Usage and server logs: Retained for up to 24 months for security, troubleshooting, and service improvement.

When retention periods expire, we delete or anonymize data where possible.

8. Log Data

If the App encounters an error, we may collect diagnostic information (including through Firebase Crashlytics), such as IP address, device name, operating system version, app configuration at the time, time and date of use, and other technical statistics, to investigate and fix issues.

9. Security

We implement commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. Please use caution when sharing sensitive information.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us. If we learn that we have collected such information without parental consent, we will delete it.

12. “Do Not Sell My Personal Information” — California

We do not sell personal information for commercial purposes. Some analytics partners may use technology that could be considered a “sale” under certain privacy laws. If you do not want your data used for interest-based advertising, you may adjust Ads Personalization settings on your device where applicable.
